Overview

Simple Screenshot Capture is a browser extension that takes screenshots of your active browser tab and saves them as PNG files to your computer. It is designed with privacy as a core principle.

Data Collection

Simple Screenshot Capture does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data.

• No personal information is collected.
• No analytics or tracking of any kind.
• All screenshot capture happens entirely on your device.
• No data is sent to any server.

Tab Screenshot Capture

The extension captures the visible area of the currently active browser tab when you explicitly click the “Take Screenshot” button. This image is:

• Saved as a PNG file to your local Downloads folder.
• Never transmitted over the network or stored anywhere other than your computer.
• For full page capture (Pro), the extension scrolls the page and stitches screenshots together locally.

Screenshot capture only occurs when you explicitly click the capture button. The extension cannot and does not capture screenshots in the background or without your explicit action.

Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions, each used solely for its core recording functionality:

• activeTab — To capture the visible area of the active tab.
• offscreen — To create a background document for stitching full-page screenshots (required by Chrome’s Manifest V3 architecture).
• downloads — To save the PNG screenshot to your Downloads folder.
• storage — To remember your preferred capture area setting and Pro license status. No personal data is stored.
• scripting — To scroll the page during full page capture (Pro feature). Only runs when you explicitly capture a full page screenshot.

Pro License Activation

If you purchase the optional Pro upgrade, the following user-initiated network requests are made:

• Clicking “Upgrade to Pro” opens a Stripe checkout page in a new browser tab (outside the extension). Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe and never passes through the extension.
• Entering a license key sends it to simple-screenshot-capture.com for one-time validation. Only the license key string is transmitted — no other data.
• The “Lost your key?” feature opens the Simple Screenshot Capture website in a new tab where you can look up your key by email. This happens on the website, not within the extension.

No network requests are made during screenshot capture, and none are made at all for free-tier users who do not activate a Pro license.

Third-Party Services

No third-party libraries, analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs are included. The only external service interaction is the optional Pro license validation described above.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
